Origins: Yaya was born into the Ya Xue clan as the lovechild of the Clanmaster and his young African Mistress. When she was only a few days old, a rival clan attacked Ya Xue village, killing assassins and civilians alike, including the Clanmaster. His mistress tried to escape to the nearby forest with the village’s children, but the attacking clan found them. The Lin Kuei, (now over 80% cyborgs) who lived nearby and were allies with the Ya Xue, intervened on behalf of the children, saving them. The young mistress was not discovered along the children, believed to have been killed by the attackers. The cyborgs investigated the burned village, but found no adult survivors from the Ya Xue. The leader of the investigation team responsible for saving the children was LK-4D4. He discovered the baby girl safely hidden in the woods. Feeling sorry for her, he took the baby from the hiding place and escorted the children back to the Lin Kuei clan.

The Grandmaster, LK-9T9, arranged for all of the Ya Xue children to be placed in convents in the mountains, but LK-4D4 wished to the keep the slain Ya Xue mistress’s baby girl. He wanted to raise the baby as his own, after losing a little girl to extended family years previously. Though reluctant to grant his second-in command and lover the request, Grandmaster LK-9T9 allowed the infant to remain with the Lin Kuei. They named her ‘Yaya Nhuru’, and grew to love the child as their own, raising her together.

Early Life:  Yaya was kept away from brutal, killing aspect of the Lin Kuei, tutored privately and playing with the other children in the section of the forest that the Lin Kuei owned. She developed a love for flowers and was often seen with some fort of flower on her being. Her parents and other residents of the Lin Kuei palace nicknamed her ‘Little Flower’. She was a happy, loving child.

Unfortunately, she was also the target of many rival clans that was envious of the cyber-ized Lin Kuei. One band of mercenaries attempted to kidnap Yaya while she was out playing with her friend and bodyguard, Asuka Yamato. Asuka killed the attackers, but was mortally wounded during the recuse. Before she passed away several days later, Askua gave Yaya a set of short blades and her flower kunai to remember her by.

The incident and Asuka’s passing deeply scarred Yaya, and she discovered the brutal, killing nature of the clan she lived in, the side of the Lin Kuei her parents tried to shield her from. She mourned for her friend and isolated herself to the flowers she so loved and cared for. Her parents decided to train Yaya to defend herself and also for her to attend public school with other children. Yaya, who hated violence, was opposed to the training, but found comfort in being in school with peers her own age.

As she grew older, Yaya realized that she had no attraction to the boys her age, having crushes on girls close to her age and older women. She hid this aspect from her parents, dating boys, but felt no attraction towards any of them. Only after meeting Takara Mouto, an older girl that was an exchange student to her school, did she fall in love. The young women dated well into adulthood, even as Takara enlisted into the United States army.

She's still learning to use the blades and kunai that her fallen friend Askua gave her. Yaya maintains a relationship with Takara Mouto while studying in college. She seeks to be an environmentalist, compassionate about wildlife preservation (much to the annoyance of her adopted father). Yaya now accepts her sexuality, but still remains fearful as her lesbianism is still downplayed in public.

Personality:
Yaya is a friendly and sweet-natured person. She is passionate especially in regards to nature and flowers. When provoked, she can be stubborn and defensive. Despite the pain of losing her childhood friend and the struggle with her sexuality, she remains positive about life. Yaya is open-minded, which helps her win over friends and allies.

Strengths:
With her education, Yaya is one of the smartest Lin Kuei operatives. While on missions, she will do everything possible to have as little bloodshed as possible. She is very good at analyzing and planning. Thanks to her open-minded-ness, she helps promote friendships and allegiances within her school life and in the Lin Kuei.

Weaknesses:
Yaya is a poor fighter, despite Sektor and Cyrax's strict training regime.  She can manage close combat with her blades, but she is unable to defend against long-range attacks. She is heavily defense-based during combat, often using attacks that allow her to move away from the opponent. She has poor aim with her kunai, often hitting the wrong targets. Also, her unwillingness to kill is a disadvantage when she is threatened. Yaya does not work well with other assassins, and is often mocked for her refusal to kill.
